Your Middle East asked us to review and upgrade their web design. We developed a new logotype, a new color palette and new typography.
Yourmiddleeast.com is a website which publishes news, opinion pieces and columns about The Middle East that you normally cannot find in traditional media. With over three hundred writers, bloggers and debaters, Your Middle East provides an extensive news feed with both depth and breadth. Our task has been to create a redesign on an existing platform as well as developing a new logotype.
First of all, we developed a set of new visual guidelines with a new color palette and new typography which is bigger and visually clearer than the original typography. Several elements were given a lighter design since the original design made them feel too heavy and cluttered. We made the different sections clearer with layout variations for the different section teasers. When it comes to the logotype, we wanted it to convey a sense of newspaper. Overall, we wanted to create a feeling of a modern newspaper online. With a new logotype, a new color palette and new typography in place, we could continue developing a complete new website design.
The main challenge with yourmiddleeast.com was to create a clearer division of sections and clearer teasers directing the visitor from the front page to the different pieces of content on the site. Before we started working on the redesign, the website had expanded and new sections had been added without any visual guidelines, which made it look more and more cluttered. We created a framework design that would give the whole website a more coherent look and feel. Creating a more distinct header and footer and using the full browser width for certain pieces of content makes the layout more airy and less boxed in.
